Overview: It's Game On!  What to know more about why the #PhysEd World is all abuzz about Sport Education and Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU)?  Learn about the many advantages in combining the Sport Ed Model and TGFU to create a versatile game-play lesson format for any content or level!

Detailed DescriptionThe purpose of the presentation is to showcase a Game Day  lesson format for PE that: * showcases how to combine sport education and teaching games for understanding * fosters student skill, tactical and fitness development * promotes authentic responsibility through cooperation, shared effort, and communication.

Game Day Lessons follow a "Game-Practice-Game" format to maximize engagement and to allow for team and individual development.  In this format, learning-teams play small-sided, inclusive and differentiated games designed to help students develop skill and tactical awareness while displaying desired character traits. In addition, students assume leadership roles, such as coaches, officials, score/time keepers, etc. and use resources such as practice plans to guide team practice sessions in preparation for daily games.  The combination of Sport Ed and TGFU provides a developmentally appropriate, highly engaging, authentic learning environment where students can experience success in all learning domains!

Critical Questions that will guide this presentation will include: 1. What is Sport Education and TGFU and how can they be combined? 2. What is a Game Day lesson format? 3. Why use Game Days? (Standards Alignment, Rationale and Benefits) 4. What are the best practices for implementing and modifying Game Days? 5. How will I (the audience member) use Game Days in my own PE program? Ultimately, the intent of the presentation is to showcase how SE and TGFU can be combined to provide a versatile lesson format for use in a variety of content, which challenges students to develop skills and tactical awareness while cooperating and competing fairly in a supportive physical activity setting. Specific strategies will be included showcasing the flexibility of this methodology.
